Mark Mosley, one of our members here in Raleigh, trades options full-time for his own account. He has given many talks to our group and is a popular and exceptionally clear presenter. Some of his trading innovations are known internationally.
Mark makes directional trades using butterflies and calendars, triggered from a 8 and 21 moving average on the daily chart, which he uses in combination with a weighted moving average study.
Mark points out that directional trades have the benefit of providing cheaper entry than at-the-money, although technically they are lower probability.
Directional trades can be more useful than income-tyle trades when markets are making the sharp moves we have been seeing recently.
But how do you know when to enter directionally? Mark will explain how he decides.
He has been using the Shadowtrader Weekly Options Advisory and is a big fan of the Shadowtrader Weighted Advance Decline study. He will talk about how he uses that service with his own method to time entry on directional weekly swing trades using butterfly and calendar trades.
Mark will show and explain a good set of butterfly examples in the Think or Swim Analyze tab.
thinkorswim is the most popular options platform among our members, so this meeting can also help you see this platform in action. Fell free to ask thinkorswim questions as well as butterfly questions.
If you are anywhere within driving distance, please try to attend in person at Oberlin Regional Library, 1930 Clark Ave, Raleigh, NC, on Monday July 28 at 6:30 pm ET. We need a decent number of attendees to meet the Library’s minimum meeting size of 13 for future room reservations. We are marginal right now.
